Swindon RFC
December 2006
Dear Club Member,
I am writing to inform you of an offer from the English Rugby Football Union (RFU) that will hopefully improve the playing facilities at Swindon RFC.
In September, we were approached by Dave Stubbly, a representative of the RFU, who enquired if we would like to be put forward for a grant from the RFU to improve our pitches and flood lights. We tentatively agreed but said we would like to have some pricing for the project.
Over the past few months we have had contractors, recommended by the RFU, come to the Club to assess and price improving the drainage of the pitches and for new flood lights, which will be repositioned to cover the far pitch.
Dave Stubbly informed us at a meeting on the 22nd November, that the cost of the project would be £80,000. Dave informed us that if we were successful in our grant application that the RFU would pay £40,000 towards the cost of the project.
This means that we, as a Club, will need to raise £40,000 by the middle February next year. This may seem like a daunting task but we, as a committee, have already started looking at other areas for grants and sponsorship.
We know we can raise £10,000 pounds by the Sports Foundation matching £5,000 of Club funds that we will use to start the fund rolling. This means we have to find £30,000 from other areas.
There are some ideas for sponsorship etc., but we need your help in raising the additional £30,000. Can you all please put your minds and talents into thinking of ways to raise this money, as we desperately need to improve the playing facilities at Swindon RFC. We have already had to postpone two Senior games and countless Junior games this season, which would not happen with the improved pitches.
There is, of course, no guarantee that the RFU will support our project, so all monies raised buy the Club will be used to employ private contractors to do as many improvements as possible.
If you would like to discuss any part of this project with Joe Walsh, or myself please do not hesitate to speak to us.
I hope you, as a member of Swindon RFC, will back both the Senior and Junior Committees in this project and help us to improve the facilities for every playing member of the Club.
