A note from the Juniors Secretary (posted on 04/08/2008)

Ianto has told us that...

"Both pitches can now be used with the exception of the area from the 22 meter line to the try line directly outside the changing rooms as this area is still a bit stressed."

A Compliment from the Cleve Festival

The U9s manager received this correspondence from the organisers of the 2008 Cleve Festival

Patrick, I am pleased to hear that you all enjoyed our festival. Unfortunately I didn't get to see much of any games but the atmosphere was great.

Swindon won Fair Play trophies in both the Under 11's & Under 12's groups. The Swindon Under 9's actually came joint 1st with Walcot, for the Fair Play award.
The decision was made that as Walcot only came with an U9's team, had not won any other trophies but had maximum Fair Play points (along with yourselves), it would be a good gesture to award them with FP, so they would not walk away completely empty handed (and given that Swindon had won FP trophies at other age groups). I hope that you are OK with this decision.

It is rare for any club to win this amount of Fair Play trophies, so all Swindon players, Coaches & parents should be extremely proud of themselves & of the club which they represent. Swindon are always welcome at Cleve and we look forward to meeting with you again next season.

Please pass on our congratulations to all

Aren't we a nice lot, eh?

Just in case you wondered - the result was

Gloucestershire U20  28-0 Dorset&Wilts U20

Dorset & Wilts vying for National Under 20s Championship semi-final spot by Julia Hutton

Dorset & Wilts Under 20s are through to the quarter-finals of the National Under 20s Championship and will take on Gloucestershire this Sunday (April 13th) at Lydney RFC, kick-off 2pm.

The Twin Counties youngsters booked their place in the final four after victories over Buckinghamshire in March at Devizes RFC (31-7) and Berkshire (11-38) at Thatcham RFC.

The squad, led by Head Coach Paul Ninnim and Manager Roy Farrant, includes 25 players from 12 different clubs across Dorset & Wilts and Dauntsey’s School. Wimborne RFC are the best represented with four players involved in the Under 20s squad.

Manager Farrant said: “We have no illusions about the size of the task facing us on Sunday. Gloucestershire are obviously an accomplished side and have been dominant in their matches so far. We need to play at our very best to get through to the semi-finals, but win or lose we are already proud of the achievements of the squad and look forward to them forming the nucleus of an even more powerful team next season.

“We have been playing an attractive blend of powerful forward play providing our talented backs with good quick ball to enable them to demonstrate their pace and great lines of attack. Because our players are selected from such a large number of clubs it has taken a little time for them to gel as a unit, but we are improving with every game. We are a young squad, the majority of whom will still be eligible to play for the under twenties next season.”

The final of the National Under 20s Championship takes place at Twickenham Stadium on May 10th, kick-off 11pm.

Pitch Improvements Part II (posted 2/1/07)

The Senior and Junior Committees have addressed a letter to all current members outlining the plans to improve the club playing facilities.

Although those awfully nice blazers at the RFU are likely to provide half the money for the improvements, the club still needs to find the rest, and that's rather a lot.

Pitch Improvements (posted 1/1/07)

Good news! Plans are afoot to sort out the drainage and move the floodlights so that we don't have to cancel everything whenever it rains. More details to follow.
