Review of the game

This cold game at the end of the autumn period saw Swindon playing possibly their best match this season. Almost immediately after the whistle blew, Swindon took a lot of possession and pressurised Farnborough in their half. After some 10 minutes of gruelling rucking and mauling, Swindon landed their first try by Nick Arrell. Nick then converted, with a confident kick straight in front of the posts (since that was where he had placed the ball only a few moments earlier!)
A second try was then produced by Greg Wilkes, thundering through the Farnborough defence and again placing the ball inbetween the posts, leaving a 2nd clinical conversion for Nick Arrell. The First half was rounded off with a 3rd try for Swindon, this time from Robert Currie. This 3rd try followed the same recipe, providing a well-placed conversion for Nick Arrell in front of the posts, Nick converting just before the half time break.

The second half continued much as the first half, with a second try coming from Robert Currie, 2 from Tom Van der Meulan, a great run and try from the forward Jack Coles, and then final try for Swindon from Liam Donohue. All of these second half tries were on the wings, and none were converted.

Final Summary

Despite the final score line of 46-0 for Swindon, Farnborough were noble opponents, and provided an entertaining and tough match.

Swindon Points
Tries • Luke Cookson

This was the first group match for the Wiltshire Cup under 13’s tournament, played on a perfect autumnal day at Swindon. The match commenced and within the first 5 minutes Swindon managed to grind out a try following a scrum with Luke Cookson a try. In the remainder of the first half, Bassett managed to fight back however; with two excellent long pitch running tries, both being converted. The second half saw Bassett continue to put points on the board, with a further 2 tries. Swindon were worthy opponents, the game seeming well matched and exciting, but Bassett managed to pick up opportunities and run through the Swindon defence taking the final score to a Bassett win

This close game saw two very similarly matched teams playing a Lexus League match at Swindon Home ground. The match started with a try from Reading after about 5 minutes of play, after a fast break from the wing. Swindon responded with 2 tries from Jordan Wells and Liam Donohue in the first half.

The second half produced a response from Reading with a try early on, this time Swindon responding with 3 tries from Jack Coles, Sam Williams, and Declan Thomas. Sam Williams managing to convert the last try with a front of goal kick at about 20 yards. Reading scored a last try and converted in the last 5 minutes of the second half.

A great game, with good running by both teams: - Swindon having the edge primarily by forceful use of their forwards and firmer tackling.
