07/04/07 Lexus National Tournament at Old Albanians Ground, St Albans

Norwich 17 Swindon 0

Playing the Hale Tour champions of two years ago, this first match was always going to be a tough challenge for Swindon. After two incomprehensible penalty decisions against Swindon in the first half, Norwich stormed to a 10-0 lead at half time. Swindon lost all but one of their scrums with the Norwich props being in a position to hook the ball. Swindon improved their performance somewhat in the second half with better tackling, especially from Tim Berry and Matt Walsh but Norwich were the better side on the day adding a try and conversion to their score.

Team: Luke Dicks, Harry Bunt, Dan Dickinson, Ellis Reynolds, Kierstin Baddeley, Ben Hornby, Matty Walsh, Cory Lotter, Callum MacMillan, Tim Berry, Kyle Burrows, Alex Makin

Subs used: Ryan Ashworth, Ryan Mistry, Chris Blackwell

Penrith 22 Swindon 14

After a pep talk to the forwards, Swindon faired better in this game. They started badly with some missed tackles at the back to allow the Cumbrians a 12-0 lead halfway through the first half. With some quick thinking after being awarded a penalty close to the Penrith line (and following from his debut try for the club last week), Chris Blackwell got the ball over. Ben Hornby ripped the ball out of the maul on the right, spun to his left and a from 15 metres passed two of the Penrith forwards to get Swindon's second try. With two very good conversions from Tim Berry Swindon found themselves in the lead at half time 14-12, and looking to compete in the second half. Whilst trying to run the ball out of danger rather than kicking, Swindon got caught twice on their line and conceded two unnecessary tries to end a match they should probably have won.

Team: Luke Dicks, Harry Bunt, Dan Dickinson, Ryan Mistry, Chris Blackwell, Ben Hornby, Matty Walsh, Callum MacMillan, Tim Berry, Kyle Burrows, Josh MacMillan, Alex Makin

Subs used: Ryan Ashworth, Tyler Rouse

Doncaster 29 Swindon 0

Doncaster powered their way to a 19-0 lead by half time. With a good forcing run from Matt Walsh being the Swindon highlight of the second half, they conceded two further tries and were well beaten.

Conceding three tries in the first half and four in the second, Swindon were no match for Derby.

31/03/07 and 1/04/07 on the Worthing RFC rugby tour

Swindon Won it!

Warm up matches, Saturday 31st March 2007

Swindon 29 Worthing 7

Swindon had all the early pressure from their forwards with number 8 Ben Hornby getting the ball just short of the line on the far right but with some swift passing play across the field saw winger Stephen Holt open the scoring. A good kick from inside centre Time Berry saw outside centre Ben Moore pick up and score with second row Chris Blackwell getting the conversion. Swindon 12 Worthing 0. In form hooker Harry Bunt peeled out of a maul close to the Worthing line opening his score for the tour to close the first half.

Prop Luke Dicks dominating the lineouts, caught the ball from a Worthing throw in and drove forward to cross the line. Holt was on the far left to receive after another good passing move from Swindon, but with Swindon flagging somewhat, Worthing got a consolation try and conversion to finish the match.

Team: 1 Luke Dicks, 2 Ryan Ashworth, 3 Ellis Reynolds, 4 Ryan Mystry, 5 Chris Blackwell, 6 Matt Evans, 7 Kiersten Baddeley, 8 Ben Hornby, 9 Sam Jones, 10 Cory Lotter, 11 Stephen Holt, 12 Tim Berry, 13 Ben Moore, 14 Callum MacMillan, 15 Tyler Rouse. Reserves used: Harry Bunt, Kyle Burrows, Alex Makin, Matt Walsh.

Swindon 19 Aldershot & Fleet 0

Full back Alex Makin opened his account for the tour with a solo run from the back which was well converted by Chris Blackwell's big left boot. A classic move out of the lineout saw Harry Bunt get the ball over and with Makin getting his second which was again converted by Blackwell saw Swindon finish the first half 19-0. Lacking passion and commitment (and possibly sleep) Swindon in the second half could not break down the Aldershot & Fleet defence whose forwards put up some stout resistance.

Team: 1 Luke Dicks, 2 Harry Bunt, 3 Dan Dickinson, 4 Ryan Mystry, 5 Chris Blackwell, 6 Matt Evans, 7 Kiersten Baddeley, 8 Ben Hornby, 9 Matt Walsh, 10 Cory Lotter, 11 Stephen Holt, 12 Tim Berry, 13 Kyle Burrows, 14 Josh MacMillan, 15 Alex Makin. Tour, Sunday 1st April 2007

Swindon 24 Worthing 0

Although Swindon had all the early pressure it took some time to open their account when prop Luke Dicks powered his way across the line. After half time, outside centre Kyle Burrows made a splendid 30 metre run to touch down after which lock Chris Blackwell, kicking well in this game got the conversion. A short range effort from hooker Harry Bunt, converted by Blackwell and try from Alex Makin saw the end of the match.

Swindon 26 Aldershot & Fleet 5

Winger Callum MacMillan opened his account from Swindon which was followed by outside centre Ben Moore effort through the middle. Inside centre Tim Berry got the conversion. Alex Makin effort was also converted by Berry to finish the half 19-0.

Again Swindon started to flag with plucky Aldershot coming back with a try. As the coaches called for more effort from the Swindon team, number 8 Ben Hornby responded with a powerful run through the middle to touch down between the posts. Berry finished the game with his third conversion of the match.

Reserves used: Ryan Ashworth, Matt Evans, Stephen Holt.

Swindon 47 Worthing 5

Despite some good work from Swindon prop Dan Dickinson, this match appeared to be closer than that of earlier in the day with Worthing scoring in response to prop Luke Dicks twisting try. Scrum half Matt Walsh picked up at the back of the scrum to score. After which centres Kyle Burrows and Tim Berry each made 30 metre runs to score, and with lock Chris Blackwell getting all four conversions Swindon looked secure with 28-5 at half time.

With tries from Callum MacMillan, fly half Cory Lotter and Blackwell and conversions from Blackwell and Berry in the second half finished Swindon's best game of the tour.

Team: 1 Luke Dicks, 2 Harry Bunt, 3 Dan Dickinson, 4 Chris Blackwell, 5 Tom Urban, 6 Ellis Reynolds, 7 Kiersten Baddeley, 8 Ben Hornby, 9 Matt Walsh, 10 Cory Lotter, 11 Stephen Holt , 12 Tim Berry, 13 Kyle Burrows, 14 Callum MacMillan, 15 Tyler Rouse.

Swindon 24 Aldershot & Fleet 5

Winger Stephen Holt opened the scoring for Swindon followed by a good effort from winger Tyler Rouse following a good passing move across the middle. Lock Chris Blackwell's conversion saw Swindon looking comfortable at the half time whistle 12-0. In the second half tries from winger Callum MacMillan and flanker Ellis Reynolds both converted by inside centre Tim Berry saw Swindon home to win the Under 14s tour comprehensively. 25/03/07 Friendly away against Abingdon

Swindon started brightly with lively inside centre Tim Berry touching down on the left to open the Swindon scorecard. Berry was in the action again when a good kick forward to the right was brilliantly picked up by winger Callum MacMillan whose pace got him easily to the line, taking the score to 10-0. The home side tried to respond but as usual, Matt Walsh was ever alert to close down any threat. Berry ripping the ball on the right raced to score his second and with an effort from outside centre Kyle Burrows Swindon finished the first half in a comfortable 20-0 lead.

Without the presence of big prop Luke Dicks and number 8 Ben Hornby (both with groin strains), the Swindon forwards flagged a bit, and despite a try on the left by Ellis Reynolds, Abingdon were able to get back into the game with two tries on the trot. With some good work by the forwards, particularly prop Dan Dickinson, and some stout defending on the wing by Stephen Holt, Swindon got back into the game with a good try on the left by Nick Sullivan. A terrific pick up and 30 metre run and touch down by substitue full back Ben Moore, converted by Cory Lotter, saw Swindon finish the game comfortably with a 37-10 lead.

Man of the match: Ellis Reynolds.

18/03/07 at home against Wootton Bassett

A March morning more like winter than spring.

This fixture is normally a physical contest and this game was no exception with possession and territory evenly balanced in the first ten minutes. After this period Bassett got a breakaway try on their left wing with a powerful run, and, in the blustery conditions, did well to get the conversion taking the visitors into the lead 0-7. Continuing from their good form last week, the Swindon forwards really started to motor at this point, but were let down from some poor distribution out to the wings in general and by poor planning on a penalty in particular. Flanker Kiersten Baddeley and number 8 Ben Hornby came close, but Swindon ran out of time before they could convert their advantage as the whistle blew to end the first half.

With the advantage of the wind and the slope in their favour, Swindon forwards continued to dominate in the second half and capitalised on this when Hornby burst through the visitors line to take the score to 5-7. The Swindon backs came more into the game at this point with some good movement from fullback Alex Makin, winger Tyler Rouse and outside centre Kyle Burrows, and when there was danger from Bassett, scrum half Matt Walsh was quick to snuff their attack. The home side's forwards continued to press with some good pressure from big prop Luke Dicks, and this eventually told when hooker Harry Bunt got the ball over in a tangle of bodies to finish the game with a Swindon victory 10-7.

Man of the match: Ben Hornby.
Team: 1 Luke Dicks, 2 Harry Bunt, 3 Dan Dickinson, 4 Chris Blackwell, 5 Ryan Mystry , 6 Ellis Reynolds, 7 Kiersten Baddeley , 8 Ben Hornby, 9 Matt Walsh, 10 Cory Lotter, 11 Tim Berry , 12 Kyle Burrows, 13 Callum MacMillan, 14 Tyler Rouse, 15 Alex Makin.

11/03/07 away at Chippenham

It was a fine and dry March morning.

Chippenham started with all the possession but some good tackling from flanker Kiersten Baddeley and number 8 Ben Hornby and some good defensive organisation from the Swindon backs kept the home side at bay. Chippenham looking quicker on the break got their points on the board and made the easy conversion. With a good blind side run out of the scrum by Hornby, Swindon got close to the line where scrum half Matt Freeman got his debut try. Unluckily Chris Blackwell's conversion could only see the ball rebound from the cross bar to take the score to 7-5. Swindon threatened to add to their score before half time with some good work by their forwards particularly the link up between Hornby and flanker Ellis Reynolds out of the scrum, but the whistle came before the visitors could convert their advantage.

With the advantage of the wind and the slope in their favour, Chippenham were always going to be a handful in the second half, and despite some good work from full back Tyler Rouse, they scored three more tries all of which were converted, taking the final score to 28-5. On another day and with a bit of luck the score line would have been much closer, so well played Swindon who stuck to their task against a fine time and without the benefit of much match practice since November.

04/03/07 away at Devizes

It was a cold, wet, windy and miserable March morning, but the team and parents were just glad we could play a game!

Swindon had all the early territorial advantage early on and after progress from number 8 Ben Hornby from a penalty saw prop Luke Dicks force his way over from close range. The big boot of Chris Blackwell, coming back from injury, secured the conversion against the angle and the elements. Shortly before the end of the first half Dicks got a second try from short range but the visitors finished the half continuing to make life difficult for themselves.

The lack of match practice and fitness saw Swindon concede a try engineered by the perspiration and commitment of the Devizes forwards who stuck to their task well. Swindon who should have killed off the game by this point and did manage to get an opportunistic try when the ever-lively centre Tim Berry pounced on a loose ball behind the home side's try line. Swindon looked comfortable at this point but without looking particularly incisive, the score being 17-5. Despite some good defensive work by substitute Jon Hatherall through the middle, Devizes were awarded a try. The home side never really looked as if they would get back into the game and the final score remained Swindon 17 Devizes 10.

Man of the match: Matty Walsh.

Team: 1 Luke Dicks, 2 Harry Bunt, 3 Dan Dickinson , 4 Matt Evans 5 Chris Blackwell, 6 Ellis Reynolds, 7 Kiersten Baddeley , 8 Ben Hornby, 9 Matt Walsh, 10 Cory Lotter, 11 Josh MacMillan, 12 Tim Berry, 13 Kyle Burrows, 14 Callum MacMillan , 15 Alex Makin.

21/01/07 away at Fairford

It was a fine morning and great pitch conditions for the match. Shortly after the start, Swindon number 8 Ben Hornby picked up at the back of the scrum and forced his way across the on the blind side. Fly Half Cory Lotter converted to take Swindon into a 7-0 lead. Short of match practice, some Swindon defensive errors and poor tackling saw the home side breakaway to cross the line. Swindon replied quickly in the shape of Hornby muscling his was out a maul to score from close range taking Swindon into a 12-5 lead. Swindon started to get their passing game going which resulted from a try on the left by Kyle Burroughs. Again poor defensive work saw Swindon concede again, but shortly after Lotter made good use of a penalty to score, and the conversion saw Swindon into a comfortable lead (24-10) at the half time whistle.

Winger Callum MacMillan replaced his brother Josh, and with his pace the flagging home side could not prevent him touching down three times as Swindon turned the pressure on. Fairford scored again swiftly followed by a second by Burroughs which was converted by Tim Berry, so that Swindon ended the match with a comfortable 48-17 victory. Well played Fairford who had 7 under age players.

Team: 1 Lawrence Dlucik, 2 Ryan Ashworth, 3 Dan Dickinson, 4 Ryan Mistry, 5 Joe Chambers, 6 Matt Evans, 7 Ellis Reynolds, 8 Ben Hornby, 9 Sam Jones, 10 Cory Lotter, 11 Josh MacMillan, 12 Nick Sullivan, 13 Kyle Burroughs, 14 Jonathan Hatherall, 15 Tyler Rousse.  03/12/06  Wiltshire Cup match played at Warminster

Blackwell securing the ball for SwindonIt was a fine winter morning with a cold westerly wind blowing across a pitch in perfect condition.

A poor kick off from Warminster saw the visitors get on top early on with the Swindon forwards powering their way forward. After a number good scrums close to the Warminster try line, eventually the ball came out on the left and was picked up by outside centre Kyle Burrows to open the scoring. Winger Josh MacMillan followed with his try and number 8 Ben Hornby finished off the first half with a battering run to get over the line. Swindon 15 Warminster 0.

Half time saw Swindon swap out Stephen Wiltshire, Harry Bunt and Tyler Rouse for Dan Dickinson, Ryan Ashworth and Alex Makin.

Swindon continued to dominate from the whistle, and the ever-alert inside centre Tim Berry ripped the ball from Warminster almost beneath their posts and scored. In difficult swirling conditions fly half Cory Lotter got the conversion. Swindon 22 Warminster 0. With the game safe, Swindon swapped out the injured Hornby for Matty Evans. Shortly after the big man Luke Dicks powered his way through from short range which was converted by Lotter. Swindon 29 Warminster 0. As Warminster were demoralised by this point, Josh MacMillan and Matt Walsh were swapped for Jon Hatherall and Sam Jones. A second try from Burrows followed by efforts from full back Alex Makin and winger Callum MacMillan as well as a further two conversions from Lotter saw Swindon finish the game strongly. Matt Freeman replaced Burrows. Swindon 48 Warminster 0.

19/11/06 At home against Wallingford

Scrum Half Sam Jones feeding the Swindon backsSportingly Swindon utility players Matt Evans and Joe Chambers (second half) volunteered to play for Wallingford as they were short of players.

Despite a strong forward line Wallingford could not prevent the much-improved forward Ellis Reynolds getting the ball over from short range after some powerful play by the Swindon front line. The home side for once converted a penalty advantage with some quick thinking between scrum half Sam Jones and fly half Cory Lotter to get the ball out to Callum MacMillan who raced across the line. Incredibly Swindon repeated the penalty move with Lotter linking-up with Luke Dicks to getting the ball over. The visitors could not make inroads into the Swindon defence with full back Tyler Rouse growing in stature as the game progressed. The half ended: Swindon 15 Wallingford 0.

The home side swapped Matt Freeman for Sam Jones and Ryan Ashworth for Harry Bunt.

Ten minutes into the second half Swindon swapped Josh MacMillan for Stephen Holt, Nathan Salmond for Ryan Mystry, and Lawrence Dlucik for Stephen Wiltshire. It’s difficult to tell which of the twins is the faster, but Josh MacMillan emulated his brother when he raced over the line which was converted by Lotter. Swindon came under some pressure from the visitors but Dicks marshalled his troops well to defend the line. Out of some mid-field confusion, Josh got his second with a thirty metre dash which again was converted by Lotter. Centre Kyle Burrows scored with a fantastic diagonal run across the Wallingford defence, and this was again converted by Lotter. Lotter, who had his best game at fly half was again in the action with a good attacking kick and Callum was the first to get to the ball taking Swindon to the whistle 41-0.

Team: 1 Luke Dicks, 2 Harry Bunt, 3 Stephen Wiltshire, 4 Ryan Mystry, 5 Chris Blackwell, 6 Ellis Reynolds, 7 Brady Myers, 8 Ben Hornby, 9 Sam Jones, 10 Cory Lotter, 11 Thomas Salmond, 12 Kyle Burrows, 13 Stephen Holt, 14 Callum MacMillan, 15 Tyler Rouse.

Subs: Matt Freeman, Ryan Ashworth, Nathan Salmond, Josh MacMillan, Lawrence Dlucik.

Man of the Match: Tyler Rouse.

12/11/06 Away Against Devizes

Remembrance Sunday. Another fine November morning with as fantastic playing surface you expect at Devizes. Swindon were well beaten in this fixture last year.

Unusually Swindon started off the brighter but the home side soon came into their own with some good possession by their forwards. A break out on their left was stopped by a good tackle by Ben Hornby which prevented a certain try by the home side. Shortly after Devizes got the ball over the line but this was held up. Good distribution saw Swindon get the ball out to their left winger Callum MacMillan whose pace got him to the line for his debut try for the club. Fly Half Cory Lotter secured the conversion. Swindon added to their score shortly after with a short range effort from flanker Kiersten Baddeley. After some good work on the ring wing by Jon Hatherall, Devizes marshalled their defence well, but despite a good defensive kick an unlucky bounce for the home side was swept up by Callum whose speed carried him to the line for his second try. Swindon finished the first half in a strong position 17-0.

Half-time substitutions saw Stephen Wiltshire replace Dan Dickinson, Stephen Holt replace Jon Hatherall, Alex Makin replace Tyler Rouse and Josh MacMillan replace his twin brother Callum.

Good intelligent interplay between centres Kyle Burrows and Tim Berry saw Tim go over which was converted by Cory. Swindon 24 Devizes 0. Injured Ben Hornby was replaced by Matt Evans. Not to be out done by his brother, Josh MacMillan got his debut try. After a solid performance by Scrum Half Matty Walsh, he was replaced by Matt Freeman, and Sam Jones replaced Kyle. Devizes looked the stronger at this point and got a consolation try. Further substitutions, Lewis Marshall for Luke Dicks, and Lawrence Dlucik for Kiersten saw the visitors defend well until the final whistle. Swindon 29 Devizes 5.

05/11/06 Against Bradford at Supermarine

This was a game, played on a glorious November morning, which Swindon had to win to stay in contention for a Cup semi-final place.

The Bradford team were out to avenge their defeat last year in this fixture, and started off the stronger in the rucks and mauls resulting in a well-deserved try after 5 minutes. From this point on the Swindon forwards started to take control and for much of the remainder of the first half were camped inside Bradford's 22metre line. After failing to get the ball out to the spaces on the wing and (again) not making use of a penalty in their favour, Swindon could not convert their superiority into points as the whistle blew to end the first half 0-5.

Swindon continued to dominate from the start of the second half, and a pick up at the back of the scrum from their number 8 Ben Hornby, was followed by great pressure from the other forwards and saw big prop Luke Dicks score from close range. Fly Half Cory Lotter did will to get the conversion and bring the home side into a narrow 7-5 lead. To their credit Bradford came back strongly with a good move down their left but Swindon were in no mood to surrender their advantage. To settle the supporters nerves towards the end of the game, a good forcing move down their left saw centre Kyle Burrows get the ball over to seal a Swindon victory 12-5.

22/10/06 Away to Trowbridge

Cold and damp conditions and a heavy Trowbridge pitch.

Swindon needed to avenge last years defeat, and started brightly with a Luke Dicks effort from close range after a good run on the right wing from Matt Evans. Number 8 Ben Hornby took Swindon into a 10-0 lead with a good forcing run on the left. Despite Cory Lotters' good defensive kicking, Trowbridge got a try back to finish the half 10-5. Trowbridge pulled themselves level early in the second half and at that point looked the stronger side and the likely winners of the tie. Swindon however were in no mood for a repeat of last years' result and responded magnificently. After some good forwards' pressure Alex Makin got the ball over which was converted by Cory. Alex again broke on the right and Kyle Borroughs finished off taking the score to 22-10. Swindon forwards matched the home sides' physical game and Luke and Matt Walsh touched down from close range to finished the game 32-10.

Man of the match: Kiersten Baddeley.

Squad: Ben Hornby, Luke Dicks, Harry Bunt, Ellis Reynolds, Chris Blackwell, Tom Urban, Kiersten Baddeley, Matt Evans, Cory Lotter, Kyle Burroughs, 15 Matt Walsh, Ryan Mistry, Lawrence Dlucik, Stephen Wiltshire, Alex Makin, Matt Freeman, Nathan Salmond, Thomas Salmond, Tom Doe and Chris Drewitt.

15/10/06 At Home to Newbury B

Weather conditions were perfect as was the Swindon pitch.

Swindon U14 were out to avenge their defeat by Newbury B's this time last season. Swindon started off brightly with a good move down the left by winger Alex Makin. The home side opened their scoring with a good move out of the scrum by Ben Hornby, carried on by Kiesrten Baddeley saw Luke Dicks score from close range, which was converted by Cory Lotter. Shortly after right winger Stephen Holt added to the score with a close range effort which again Lotter converted taking the score to 14-0. A high kick from the visitors was brilliantly caught by Stephen who raced to the line to complete a superb individual effort. Makin was always a threat and converted this into points with a good run on the left. Swindon forwards continued to dominate and after a good run by Hornby saw the much-improved Ryan Mistry score his first try of the season. Full Back Tyler Rousse forced his way over on the left and this was shortly followed by a move which was started and finished by Tim Berry. Another Lotter conversion took the score to 41-0 at the interval.

For the second half substitute Kyle Burroughs moved from outside centre to left wing, and although the visitors from Berkshire put up more resistance, Burroughs' pace got him three tries on the trot. Swindon rounded off their points tally with Berry being first to the ball after an intelligent kick from fly half Lotter taking the final score to 63-0.

Man of the Match: Tim Berry.

Team: 1 Luke Dicks 2 Ryan Ashworth 3 Stephen Wiltshire 4 Chris Blackwell 5 Ryan Mistry 6 Ellis Reynolds 7 Kiersten Baddeley 8 Ben Hornby 9 Sam Jones 10 Cory Lotter 11 Tim Berry 12 Matt Walsh 13 Alex Makin 14 Stephen Holt 15 Tyler Rousse. 08/10/06 At Home to Fairford

It was a fine morning and great pitch conditions for the match. Shortly after the whistle, Swindon number 8 Ben Hornby picked up at the back of the scrum and in a classic blind side move from the training ground, ran thirty metres to open the scoring. Right winger Alex Makin added to the home sides' score with an effort from close range and left winger Nick Sullivan responded shortly after with a good try on his debut. Cory Lotter converted to take Swindon into a 17-0 lead. With good marshalling from scrum half Sam Jones, further close range efforts from Tyler Rousse and Ellis Reynolds together with another Cory conversion took Swindon into a comfortable 29-0 position at half time.

Plucky Fairford playing with seven under 13 players defended well in the second half, but two tries from Kiersten Baddeley and a try and two conversions from substitute Tim Berry saw the home side finish the match convincingly 48-0. Well played Fairford who battled all the way to the final whistle.

Team: 1 Stephen Wiltshire, 2 Lawrence Dlucik, 3 Lewis Marshall, 4 Joe Chambers, 5 Ryan Mistry, 6 Kiersten Baddeley, 7 Ellis Reynolds, 8 Ben Hornby, 9 Sam Jones, 10 Cory Lotter, 11 Matt Walsh, 12 Kyle Burroughs, 13 Alex Makin, 14 Nick Sullivan, 15 Tyler Rousse.
Subs: Harry Bunt, Jonathan Hatherall, Stephen Holt, Dan Dickinson, Alex Scott, Tim Berry, Luke Dicks.

Man of the match: Stephen Wiltshire.

01/10/06 Wiltshire Cup against Chippenham

In not ideal conditions, wind and rain, Swindon suffered an early blow when Scrum Half Sam Jones collected an injury and had to come off. A good run from Swindon's Number 8 Ben Hornby and good support from flanker Kiersten Baddeley saw the home side get close and Tim Berry was quickest to react to a loose ball to open the scoring. In the difficult swirling conditions, Cory Lotter did well to secure the conversion, to take Swindon into the lead 7-0. Well-drilled Chippenham responded with tries on both the left and the right, after which Swindon defended their line to keep the deficit to three points. Half time: Swindon 7 Chippenham 10.

Chippenham forwards dominated from the start of the second half and were always quicker to the ball, but the home side defended well through the middle and on each flank. Swindon came back with some good pressure and a good forcing run from Harry Bunt. The home side finished the game looking the stronger side but eventually ran out of time before they could convert this advantage into points. Final score: Swindon 7 Chippenham 10.

24/09/06 Friendly against Stroud

On a bright sunny morning with a gentle breeze, this game was to be played in three 'halves'. Swindon quickly got into the groove with a good move down the right from the forwards with Luke Dicks powering his way close to the line and the much-improved Tom Urban getting the ball over. However Stroud replied soon after to take the score to 5-5. A classic move out of the scrum to the left with a pass to Kyle Burroughs at pace saw him cross the line. A conversion from Cory Lotter taking Swindon into a 12-5 lead. Before the end of the first half, Stroud came back strongly and had the ball over the line on their left but this was held up by Ben Hornby.

After a fairly even start to the second 'half', Ben Hornby broke from the half way line on the left to score a try between the posts, which was easily converted by Cory. The visitors comfortable lead did not last long with another try from Stroud taking the score to 10-19. An intelligent kick from Cory and some good follow-up by the forwards ended in a try from short range from Luke. Cory's conversion took Swindon into a 26-10 lead. The home side responded with a try and conversion to end the second 'half' 9 points adrift.

With Ben rested in the third 'half' and Luke suffering from an ankle injury early on, the home side despite some great tackling from Full Back Matt Walsh, scored twice to finish the game Stroud 27 Swindon 26.

Swindon U14 v Chipping Sodbury U14

Good interplay by the Swindon forwards saw Ben Hornby get close to the try line which was picked up by Luke Dicks to power his way over the line, taking Swindon into a 5-0 half time lead. Swindon added to their points tally when Kyle Burrows muscled his way through on the right after a penalty award, and Cory Lotter’s conversion saw them finish 12-0 winners.

Swindon U14 v Wimbourne U14

Swindon arguably had the better of each half but could not convert this into points with the tie ending a 0-0 draw.

Swindon U14 v Pulborough U14

Swindon needed to win this game with the maximum number of points to go through to the semis. Winger Alex Makin opened his account which was closely followed by a close-range effort from Ben Hornby which was converted by Cory Lotter taking Swindon into a comfortable 12-0 half time lead. A Tim Berry breakaway effort was soon after followed up by Tom Urban’s debut try for the side. Another close range try from Ben and another breakaway effort from Tim and four conversions from Cory in the game saw Swindon complete the game comfortably 38-0 ahead.

Semi – Final : Swindon U14 v Chipstead U14

Chipstead started this tie as favourites as they had demolished their opposition up to this point. A good move on the right hand side led by Ben Hornby ended up with a loose ball which was touched down by Tim Berry. Cory Lotter converted to take Swindon ahead 7-0. Chipstead responded with some good pressure of their own and two converted tries in quick succession saw them take the lead. Honours were even when Luke Dicks scored from close range. Kyle Burrows broke through to get the ball across the line and Cory finished with three conversions out of three, taking the final score to Swindon 21 Chipstead 14.

Final: Swindon U14 v Havant U14

The bigger Havant pack dominated for much of the first half and finally converted this advantage into points with a move down the left flank taking the Hampshire side into a 5-0 lead at the half time whistle. Swindon fought bravely and despite some gutsy stuff from the forwards led by Luke Dicks and some good moves especially down the right hand side they could not find a way through Havant’s defence. Well played both sides in a keenly-contested final. Swindon 0 Havant 5.
