Swindon defended well to limited the Welsh team to five tries and one conversion. Swindon 'B's go into the plate competition.

Swindon 'A' 37 Newbury 'B' 0

It was one way traffic in the first half with three tries on the left wing by Alex Makin but the Swindon kickers could not convert, making the half time score 15-0. Alec added a fourth try early in the second half which was followed up by Tim Berry breaking through the Newbury defence to score. Cory Lotter converted. Bath's early try and conversion was countered by a try from Kiersten Baddesley with the game evenly poised at 5-7 at the interval. Bath secured two further tries in the second half to win the game.

Swindon 'A' 7 Caldicot 7

Tim Berry's second break through of the tournament was ably converted by Cory Lotter to take Swindon to a half-time score of 7-0. Unfortunately the Welsh side were able convert their try in the second half to draw the tie. Caldicot ended up with the same points as Swindon 'A' but go through to the Cup competition as they scored more tries.

Hard luck to the 'B's who fought all the way, with a magnificent contribution from some of the under 12's.

Swindon 'A' 21 Portsmouth 0

Luke Dicks opened the scoring with a short range effort from a Swindon penalty which was converted by Cory Lotter. Another Tim Berry break through was again converted by Cory to take Swindon to a half time lead of 14-0. Tim got his second after to good interplay which again was converted by Cory. Well done to the Swindon team and the coaches for what has been a magnificent season for the Under 13's

22&23/04/06 South Coast of England Festival of Rugby at Bognor Regis RFC

Pool matches, Saturday 22 April 2006

Swindon 0 Rhiwbina 25

Swindon had some early pressure but the physically stronger and more mobile Rhiwbina players soon got into their stride with a try on their right. Swindon's lack of concentration and failure to make crucial first-time tackles meant that the well-drilled side from Cardiff were able to add to their score on the right, and then add another two on their left to end the half with four tries under their belt. Swindon did have an opportunity to score from a penalty but they could not capitalize. In the second half Swindon's defence were able to counter strong runs from Rhiwbina's number 12 and number 14, but the Welsh side were able to make it 25-0 on the final whistle. A much better effort from Swindon in the second half.

Swindon 15 Bank of England 0

Swindon opened their tournament score with a powerful run from Luke Dicks to cross the line. Swindon defended well against an evenly-matched Bank of England side to finish the first half 5-0 up. The side from Roehampton in London could not cope with Luke's determined running as he got his second try half-way through the second half. Just before the end Tim Berry was first to the ball after a Swindon forward kick as they finished the game 15-0.

Swindon 0 Effingham 5

Honours were even at the end of the first half with both defences intact. In the second half, Effingham managed to get the ball over the line when Swindon tried in vain to break down the Surrey team who were able to hold on to the end. So Rhiwbina and Effingham go into the cup competition whilst Swindon and Bank of England play for the shield on Sunday.

Shield matches, Sunday 23 April 2006

Swindon 15 Bognor Regis 10

Ben Hornby's powerful run was picked up by Luke Dicks who got the ball over the line from close range. Shortly after Luke got his second but this was quickly followed by a response from the home side against the run of play. Ben's injury did not prevent him getting the ball over the line so that at half time Swindon looked reasonably comfortable at 15-5. In the second half Bognor got a try back which raised the anxiety of the Swindon supporters a notch or two, but their team was able to hold on to their slender lead to the final whistle.

Swindon 10 Bank of England 5

A good pick up from Matt Walsh on the right saw Swindon take the lead. Bank of England were a much more determined side today, and playing a much tighter game got a deserved equaliser. A good combination on their left from Ben Hornby and Luke Dicks resulted in a try in the corner by Tyler Rousse to give the half-time lead to Swindon 10-5. Neither side could add to their score in the second half as both defences dominated, but with more anxious moments as the Swindon supporters counted down the clock, their team clung on to their narrow lead. So despite the absence of key back players and the injury to their number eight all through the competition, Swindon did well to secure the South Coast of England Festival of Rugby Shield. Well done to man-of-the-tour Harry Bunt.

Tour squad: Ellis Reynolds, Harry Blunt, Luke Dicks, Chris Blackwell, Tom Urban, Kiersten Baddeley, Matt Capstick, Ben Hornby, Matt Walsh, Tim Berry, Joe Chambers, Sam Jones, Stephen Holt, Tyler Rousse, Cory Lotter, Dan Dickinson, Ryan Ashworth, Ryan Mystry, Matthew Gates.

09/04/06 away against Supermarine

Supermarine 0 Swindon 58

Bouncing back from their Wilts and Dorset Cup Final reversal, Swindon played one of their most impressive rugby games of the season against an under-strength Supermarine side. The visitors' passing game dominated Supermarine from the word go with Tim Berry opening the scoring. New boy Alex Makin weighed in with two tries on his debut followed by another try from Tim. Jonny Hatherall's score finished off the first half with Swindon 29-0 ahead.

There was no let up for Supermarine in the second half when Cory Lotter got the ball over the line. Kyle Borroughs then got in on the act with his score followed by Matt Capsticks' first try of the season. Kyle got a second try and Luke Dicks rounded off the game with his effort. Tim Berry got three of the conversions and Corry Lotter one.

02/04/06 in Bournemouth against Sherborne (Wilts v Dorset Final)

Swindon 14 Sherborne 26

Sherborne's early pressure was converted into points with a try and conversion. Swindon responded with some good pressure from the forwards, especially Luke Dicks which resulted in a try from close range by Ben Hornby which was ably converted by Chris Blackwell. Swindon went into the lead when Ben Hornby broke through the Sherborne line and ran 30 metres to score between the posts. Chris Blackwell made no mistake with the conversion. Just before half time Sherborne managed to secure a try and conversion against the run of play to level the scores at 14-14 at the half time whistle. Sherborne capitalised in the second half with two well worked tries taking the final score to Swindon 14 - Sherborne 26.

Man-of-the match was Ben Hornby.

Well played Swindon who never gave up the chase.

26/03/06 at home against Abingdon

Swindon 30 Abingdon 22

Windy conditions. Swindon started with their pack being dominant but Abingdon scored a breakaway try against the run of play. The Abingdon kicker did well to convert in the blustery conditions. Swindon man-of-the-match Stephen Holt broke through the Abingdon line to score his debut try and shortly after Ben Hornby got a try from close range taking Swindon into the lead. Cory Lotter then scored and Joe Chambers weighed in with his debut try taking Swindon ahead 20-7. Abingdon then got back into the game with a try on the wing but Swindon's response came in the shape of Luke Dicks who scored from short range after some good pressure from the Swindon pack. Abingdon responded with another strong break down the wing making the score 25-17. After great pressure from the Swindon forwards close to the Abingdon try line Matty Walsh prospered from a loose ball to take the score to 30-17 to the home side. To their credit Abingdon did not give up and got another try down the left hand channel, taking the final score to 30-22. That's four wins in a row for Swindon.

The Game today was a close one, with both teams playing well. Swindon managed 24 minutes into the game to cross Salisbury's line but were held up. Then from Salisbury's 5 meter line Luke Dicks managed to get close to the Salisbury line, popped it up to Ben Hornby who made a great move forcing his way to the try line taking Swindon a head 5 - 0. Unfortunately Chris Blackwell missed the conversion. The score stayed the same through to the second half. Salisbury fought back well, braking through Swindon's defensive line several times, making a run for Swindon's try line. But fullback Cory Lotter stopped them every time. With less than seconds to go Salisbury did make it across the Swindon try line but were held up. The scrum was won by Swindon and they managed to clear the the ball into touch ending the game. Swindon 5 - Salisbury 0.

The Man of the match was Cory Lotter.

Team: Luke Dicks, Harry Bunt, Ellis Reynolds, Tom Urban, Chris Blackwell, Matt Capstick, Kiersten Baddeley, Ben Hornby, Matt Walsh, Tim Berry, Sam Jones, Kyle Burrows, Jonathan Hatherall, Ben Moore, Corry Lotter. Subs, Ryan Ashworth, Dan Dickinson, Matt Evans, Joe Chambers & Steven Holt.

26/02/06 Swindon Vs Bradford-on-Avon at Swindon (Wiltshire Cup Semi-final)

The game was a close one. 10 minutes into the game Bradford took the lead making a break through the Swindon lines taking the score to 5 - 0, but missed the conversion. Five to ten minutes later with a good drive by Swindon Ben got it over the line to make the score 5 - 5. With Chris getting the conversion taking Swindon into the lead 7 - 5.

The score stayed them same with both teams fighting back until 15 minutes into the second half when Luke made a drive to the line taking Swindon to 12-5. It was a difficult kick from the corner, and was missing by only a few feet by Chris. With only 7 minutes to go Kyle made a great breakthrough and took the score to 17 - 5. With another difficult kick the wind denied Chris the conversion. With only minutes to go Bradford made a magnificent run from the Swindon half taking the score to 17 - 10, getting them back in the game. Bradford only needed to draw to go through to the final they fought back well, but with seconds on the clock Kyle managed to get the ball over the line taking the score to 22 - 10. Chris was denied the conversion. After which the whistle blew making the final score 22 - 10. Kyle deservedly was named the man of match. Swindon was through to the final.

19/02/06 at Home to Reading Abbey

Swindon 36 Abbey 0

This was a competitive match on a heavy pitch. Honours were even after ten minutes when the deadlock was broken with a try on the left by Ben Hornby. Tries from Luke Dicks and Kyle Burrows left Swindon on a comfortable position at the end of the first half. If the Swindon forwards impressed in the first half, then the backs did the same in the second and with further tries from Matt Evans and Kiersten Baddesley together with Jon Hatherall's debut try rounded off a good win for the home side.

All credit to the Abbey team who competed valiantly to the final whistle.

05/02/06 against Wootton Bassett

Swindon 0 Wootton Bassett 22

Despite some fine performances Swindon could do little to prevent Wootton Bassett going over for three try's in the first half. The second half was much better though with Swindon's defence holding out for much of the half and then an individual bit of skill allowed Bassett to break away and score. The plus point for Swindon was the way in which the new players gelled into the team quickly and much is hoped from them going forward.

Man of The Match Kierstin Baddeley

15/01/06 against Marlborough (Cup Game)

It was a hard fought game, with Marlborough only needing a draw to knock Swindon out of the cup. Both teams were evenly matched, but half way through the 1st half a ruck formed and Luke Dicks managed to get the ball over the line, with Chris making the conversion. Taking the score to 7 - 0. Marlborough fought back hard and in the final few minutes of the second half made a try in the corner, but failed to get the conversion taking the score to 7-5. The final score was Swindon 7 - 5 Marlborough.

08/01/06 against Minety

The score does not show a true representation of the game, Mintey played well but Swindon managed to stop them at every corner from scoring. The Swindon Scorers were Luke(2), Kyle(2), Lawrence(1), Ben(3), Keirsten(1). Chris's kicking was also on form getting 7 out of a possible 9 of the conversions. Final score was Swindon 59 - 0 Minety

Man of the match was Ben Hornby

11/12/05 at Corsham

Team manager's report

On Sunday, Swindon Under 13's played a re-scheduled match away to Corsham with a full squad of players to choose from. Swindon quickly got into the groove with an opening score from Ben Hornby who somehow manages to stay on his feet when gravity says otherwise. A couple of superb moves from the much improved backline saw a try apiece from Kyle Burrows and Tim Berry. Luke Dicks again took control of the forwards and got a well-deserved try from close range.

After the break Swindon did not let up with another close range special from Luke Dicks. The scoring was rounded off with a try from Matthew Evans who was quickest to react to a fumble behind the tryline by Corsham. Chris Blackwell made all 6 conversions.

The game was played at Corsham, in heavy fog. You could just see both ends of the pitch.

A few minutes into the game and Ben Hornby broke through the Corsham line to make the 1st try of the game, directly in front of the posts, Chris Blackwell made the conversion taking the score to 7 - 0. After 10 mins into the game Kyle made the second try with Chris getting the conversion 14 - 0. Then a great run and passing by Tim Berry, Matty Evans & Sam Jones with support from the rest of the team, Tim made the 3rd try of the game, with Chris Blackwell getting the conversion 3 for 3 taking the score to 21 - 0. Close to the end of the 1st half with support from the team Luke Dicks forced a way across the line, with Chris kicking his fourth conversion. Taking the half time score to 28 - 0. In the second half Corsham faught back well but Ben Hornby made a great run to the Corshams 5 meter line and tackled when Luke Dicks got the ball from the ruck and forced his way over the line to score his 2nd try of the match with Chris making the conversion taking the score to 35 - 0. With 5 minutes left of the game to play Corsham passed the ball back, but with pressure from Swindon missed the pass and Matty Evans took advantage of the loose ball and made the try, with Chris Blackwell making his 6th conversion of the match 100% kicking score. 13/11/05 away against Marlborough

Marlborough 34 Swindon 0

The larger Swindon pack dominated proceedings in the first 15 minutes with the visitors camped just in front of the Marlborough try line. Ben Hornby got the ball over the line but was held up and Swindon could not capitalise on their early pressure, with some stout defending from the home side. Marlborough were quick to get the ball to their wings and were able to get two tries in the first half. In the second half some poor catching and poor defending allowed the home side four more tries. To their credit Swindon did not give up and towards the end came close from a penalty, but again the Marlborough defence held firm as they did in the first half. A well-deserved victory to Marlborough.

02/10/05 v Reading

On Sunday, Swindon Under 13's played host to Reading RFC with a full squad of players to choose from. The team did not disappoint the home supporters and quickly got into the groove with a opening try from Tyler Rousse. Ben Hornby somehow evaded all the opposition to ghost through for the second try of the game. After the break Reading seemed to get stronger and got a deserved try in the corner. This seemed to galvanise the Swindon boys and they responded with some very entertaining rugby which resulted in two late tries for Luke Dicks and Sam Jones. Chris Blackwell made 3 out of 4 conversions.

Man of the match was Ben Hornby
