Swindon U12s went to Wootton Bassett to compete in the Wiltshire Cup. The 16 strong squad were well trained and drilled for the challenges of the day. The team started the competition with a great 4 1 win against Cooper Avon Tyres, which put them in good spirits. The play had lots of ball movement with good handling skills. The next game against Devizes was a 1 1 draw but the team continued to play as a team and made good use of all the players on the pitch. Unfortunately our first defeat came against Salisbury with a result of 2 1. However, the team re-established themselves and won the next game against local rivals Wootton Bassett. A result of 2 1 was celebration for Swindon. The team two hardest matches were our last and the tiredness of the team started to show. With the last two games going to the opposition. A big well done to all the team for an enjoyable day of rugby and fair play
throughout the games.

Swindons first game against Corsham was a difficult game for Swindon. Corsham were the stronger side and Swindons squad had to defend their line throughout the game. The result was a win to Corsham by 7 tries to 0. The second game against Chippenham went more to Swindons style of play and Swindon took the lead by scoring a try in the first quarter of the 1st half. Newburys large A & B Teams made it a difficult task for the 13 Swindon players that travelled along the M4 to the Newbury ground. Newbury B 7 - Swindon 0 The first game against the B Team started well for Swindon. Swindon was strong and managed to keep the Newbury Team away from the try line for much of the first half of the game. But the better techniques and fitness of the opposition allowed them to win the match. Newbury A 5 - Swindon 0 Swindons same 12 players returned to the pitch for the second game of the day against the Newbury A Team. Again, Swindon started well nearly scoring in the left hand corner. However, the effect of playing 2 games against 2 strong teams was evident in the last quarter of the second half. Swindon U12s played well against this strong side and did lots of rucking & mauling across the back line. They were by no means over ruled by their opposition and displayed good rugby to the watching crowd. Swindon now looks forward to their next match. For his constant rucking & mauling in both games the Man of the Match went to Zack Wojtowicz. Squad: Andrew Peedle, Craig Morphet, Daniel Hubble, Fraser Berry, Grant King, Ian Mearns, Jason Grunsell, Kristian Lee, Patrick Collins, Ryan Gardo, Stuart Doughty, Tom East and Zack Wojtowicz Coaches: Kelvin Neale, Ian Panting & Graham Berry 15/01/06 at Supermarine Supermarine 0 Swindon 7 Swindon U12s visited Supermarine for their first game of 2006. Swindon started the game slow and needed to gel as a team quickly as the opposition were the first to cross the line with a try. However, Swindon soon replied with a try by Ian Mearns. This gave the guys the confidence to play harder. The third try of the game was also scored in the first half. The second half of the game saw some excellent rugby by both teams and it was a great game to watch. The home team tried hard to equal the score and had good possession of the ball in the second half. The tackles were good and the team passed well between themselves. Unfortunately, we were unable to bring the score to 2 all but the consolation was that the opposition did not score either. Our Man of the Match award was presented to our try scorer Ian Mearns. Squad: Andrew Peedle, Cameron Panting, Daniel Hubble, Grant King, Ian Mearns, James Perkins, Jason Grunsell, Kristian Lee, Matthew Stewart, Patrick Collins, Ryan Gardo, Stuart Doughty and Tom East. Our first game against Chippenham B was a very well played game. The Swindon squad moved the ball well on the pitch, which ensured a nice bunch of 5 tries for Swindon. Try scorers: Kristian Lee, Cameron Panting 3 and Ryan Gardo
The second game against Chippenham A was by far our best performance against this team. There was outstanding play from Kristian Lee. Tom East, who is new to the squad, showed what an addition he is to the side. Swindon lead the game with the first try across the line. It was at the end of the game that Chippenham managed to break through and draw the game. Try scorer: Cameron Panting
The third and final game of the day was against Stroud who showed to be a well-drilled side. The Swindon side started to show tiredness and this combined with the strength of the Stroud side ended in defeat for Swindon with a 4 1 score. Try scorer: Cameron Panting
There was outstanding play from many of the guys in the squad today but the Man of the Match was awarded to Kristian Lee for his determination and consistency throughout the 3 games. Some players really are beginning to look like rugby players on the pitch.

Our second game against Melksham saw the team continue to play with passion and a winning determination. Tries: Cameron Panting 2.
Swindon had to play three games without a break and the third game was against a strong Chippenham side. Swindon however, had a good start and crossed the line first. But, the tired legs began to tell and in the end Chippenham crossed the line twice to secure the win. Try: Cameron Panting.
A good game was played against Gordano. The Swindon back row was in good shape and had excellent play. Again, the Swindon team played with passion to secure a win. Tries: Patrick Collins 2, Cameron Panting 1.
The last game of the day for Swindon U12s was against the hosts Wootton Bassett. The first try of this game came from Swindon and everyone hoped for more to come. Unfortunately the home team crossed the line 3 times and put Swindon under pressure. The pressure showed and two of the Swindon players fell and were injured in the second half of the game. The players needed attention and the game was abandoned. Unfortunately Craig Morphet suffered a broken arm and Jason Grunsell was badly bruised. Try: Cameron Panting.

Match Report for 25 September 2005 Swindon 10 Fairford 0
Swindon U12s start the season in fine form with a rousing 10 0 victory against Fairfords U12s squad which also included 13 year olds. There were good individual performances from the Swindon squad but it was the excellent teamwork and movement of the ball that got the result.
It was rewarding to see that the fitness training during the summer months paid off. We look forward to the season ahead and realise that sterner test will come for the squad. This starts with the meeting next week at Wootton Bassett.
