Under 11s Reports (Most recent at Top)09/04/06 away at the Hayle Rugby Festival Swindon Under 11 travelled to Cornwall last weekend hoping to win the Hayle Rugby Festival for the third year in a row. However drawn in a tough pool they started sluggishly and lost their opening game to Portsmouth 5-0. Spurred into action the team responded well beating eventual champions Redruth 5-0 thanks to some ferocious tackling and a superb try by Declan Thomas rounding off outstanding play from backs and forwards. The last game of the first day saw Swindon play local rivals Wootton Bassett with Swindon edging the game 5-0 thanks to a great try from Declan Proudlock. The day ended with Swindon level on points with Portsmouth and Redruth but
being edged into the Plate for day 2 on tries scored. Swindon started day 2 with a vengeance and brushed aside Widden Old Boys 20-0. The second game saw another improvement and after some excellent play from forwards and backs, Swindon ran out winners 25-0. The deciding game once again saw Swindon and Wootton Bassett battling it out.
This time the boot was on the other foot with Bassett running out 5-0 winners. A thoroughly good time was had by all with some great times off the pitch coupled with some excellent rugby on it. 02/04/06 away at Oxford Harlequins against Chinnor and Oxford Harlequins Swindon 6 Oxford Harlequins 2 Swindon 1 Chinnor 3 Squad: Sam Williams, Declan Thomas, Jack Mepham-Coles, Jacob Ford, Sean Kemble, Phillip Rees, Thomas Van der Maulan, Declan Proudlock, Jordan Wells & Jack Imber 12/03/06 away at Minety Squad: Sam Williams, Jack Kimber, Declan Thomas, Jacob Ford, Nick Arrell, Liam Donohue, Sean Kemble, Thomas van der Meulan, Declan Proudlock, Jack Mepham-Coles, Jordan Wells, Phillip Rees & Alex Jenkins Game: Swindon 6 Minety 0 Man of the Match: Declan Proudlock Good game played in freezing conditions. 05/03/06 Bradford On Avon Under 11s Festival Pool B Swindon vs Melksham / Bradford / Marlborough / Devizes Venue Away, Sunday 5th March 2006 Players Jerome Davies, Declan Thomas, Jack Coles, Jacob Ford, Nick Arrell, Liam Donoghue, Sean Kemble, Jack Kimber, Sam Williams, Phillip Rees, Nick Arrell, Alex Jenkins, Declan Proudlock, Thomas Van Der Mevlan Final Scores Conditions Dry, Soft , sunny , cold Match review The festival for the under 11 teams was kindly organised and hosted by Bradford On Avon at their grounds. Swindon secured a 2 nil win in this first game, with tries coming from Williams and Cole. The second game was against Bradford On Avon. Game 3 vs Marlborough provided a field for Swindon to perform, with tries from Jerome Davies and Sam Williams giving Swindon a 2 0 win (both tries in a fast second half) The surprise defeat for Swindon, was in the last game against Devizes. A try from Sam Williams in the second half was simply not enough to take the 2 point lead away from Devizes. A 2-1 defeat for Swindon With the points at the end of pool B stacked against Swindon, they failed to get through to the finals. 29/01/06 at Corsham vs Corsham and vs Chippenham Players Jerome Davies, Declan Thomas, Jacob Ford, Nick Arrell, Liam Donoghue, ,Jack Kimber, Sam Williams, Phillip Rees, Nick Arrell, Declan Proudlock, Thomas Van Der Mevlan Swindon 2 Corsham 5 Tries Man of The Match Declan Thomas The first match proved difficult for Swindon, with a very strong Corsham team running two tries from grinding forward runs. A try by Sam Williams in the first half showed some promising work from Swindons centres, but a further try from Corsham had the half time score at 3-1 to their favour. The second half also proved to be Corshams game, and despite an excellent run and try from Jack Kimber, it was not enough to hold Cosham from a final score line of 5-2 in their favour. The second match was better for Swindon, as they found their legs and mastered the centre of the field with some strong tackling and very powerful running. 4 tries to Sam Williams, 2 tries for Jack Kimber, and a try for both Declan Proudlock and Phil Rees gave Swindon a victory of 8-1 following only 1 try from Chippenham. Two very good performances from Swindon, on a day when they were missing a few key players. Declan Thomas received Player of the Match, for showing strong spirit and strength tackling 2 very good opposing teams. 22/01/06 at Newbury v Newbury and Aldermaston 1st Game Swindon 0 Newbury 1 2nd Game Swindon 0 Newbury 0 3rd Game Swindon 5 Aldermaston 0 Tries from: Sam Williams 2, Jack Kimber 2, Jack Mepham-Coles 1 Squad Sam Williams, Jerome Davies, Jack Kimber, Declan Thomas, Jacob Ford, Nick Arrell, Liam Donohue, Sean Kemble, Thomas, van der Meulan, Declan Proudlock, Jack Mepham-Coles, Phil Rees 15/01/06 away at Supermarine

They dominated with their rucking & scrummaging, putting Quins under pressure through the whole game in the set pieces. A spirited and fast moving Abbey secured 3 tries in the first half, with Swindon managing 1 try by Sam Williams after a mauling series of tackles and scrums took team forward allowing a try. The second half saw Swindon finding their legs, with Jack Cole scoring 4 tries, all down the wing and with Jack running aggressively towards the try line. A magnificent game by this strong forward. A try by Sean Kemble, after he wrestled and mauled the ball at deep in Abbeys half, and a further strong run and resulting try by Sam Williams, left the final score-line at 7/3 for Swindon.

Match review Swindon U11s got back to their winning ways in their new R & D McBain Contractors Ltd sponsored shirts against Marlborough. Swindon and Marlborough started the match looking very similar in their respective approaches to playing, with both sides playing strong in defence and grinding attacking. The first half was very equally balanced around the centre of the pitch, with 50:50 possessions, but Swindon finally broke the gridlock when Sam Williams managed to find a gap and scored a try, taking Swindon 1-0 at half time. The second half saw Swindon creating more opportunities, due to the pack finding extra strength, and the Swindon forwards finding new pace. A try came soon in the second half for Jack Kimber, and then a further 2 from Declan Thomas. Kimber and Thomas ran a magnificent try down the left wing with some lovely passing and running. The final score was 4-0 for Swindon 2nd friendly match 2-0 for Swindon Both tries scored by Sam Williams
Review of the 3 games The first match saw a strong Chippenham A team tackling and running stronger than Swindon. A very determined drive and run from Liam Donohue gave Swindon 1 try, but the strength of Chippenham A with a more focused attacking strategy gave them a final score of 3-1 The second match against Chippenham B was more dominated by Swindon, with tries from Sam Williams (x3), Jack Kimber and Declan Thomas. Swindons game was far stronger in defence and tackling, with some great running from the try scorers. Strength in the pack also gave Swindon a big advantage. Final score Swindon 6, Chippenham B 1
The final match was a close game against Stroud. Both teams playing a good tackling and licking game. A try for each team in the second half (Jack Kimber for Swindon) gave a final scoreline of 1-1 draw
